Doing The Right Funeral Readings
When it comes down to it, funeral readings can be a hard thing for a person to do. If you are doing a reading then there is a good chance that you were quite close to the person you are doing the reading for, which means that you are grieving. With that in mind, you put so much pressure on yourself to do the right kind of funeral readings at his or her funeral that you make the process a whole lot harder then it should be. The thing is, you probably already know what you want to say at the funeral, you are just over thinking it. Whether you want something sentimental, short and sweet, or a bit funny, there is a good chance that you already know the right thing to say.
One of the main issues that people have with funeral readings
is that they don’t know what is appropriate and what isn’t. While you might have a great story about the person that you are speaking about, you don’t quite know if it is the right thing to say. Here’s a good rule of thumb to go by: if the story would embarrass him, in a bad way, when he or she was alive, you should probably not bring it up at the funeral. If it’s a cute story that sums him up in a good way then yes, go for it. On the other hand, if it’s something that they wouldn’t want brought up then you probably shouldn’t do it.
When it comes to the timing of funeral readings, short and sweet is always better then long and drawn out. If you have amusing anecdotes that you know people will want to hear then, yes, give it the appropriate length. But you should never just talk to talk, especially at a funeral. You know what length is appropriate and as you gather your thoughts on paper then you’ll see what the best course of action is in regards to length.
There are some people who like to make funeral readings religious, and there are others that like to make them humorous in nature. The thing is, you can do whatever you want , as long as it’s appropriate for the funeral that you are giving the reading at. If you aren’t sure what to write or the right way to phrase your thoughts, you can find a lot of information online.
